Preston St., Room 107 Baltimore, MD 21201 Making ideas public—that’s how the Klein Family School of Communications Design defines its goal. Its programs blur the boundaries between between creativity and practicality. The school offers opportunities to study traditional creative forms—poetry, fiction, drama, epic—as well as emerging media, including Web design and video, all presented within a historical and cultural context. Our state-of-the-art Digital Design Studio lets students learn and practice desktop publishing, animation, Web design, and image creation, correction and manipulation. Our Media Lab is the perfect place to explore studio and location production of digital video and audio. Our faculty produce a range of creative and professional work, including: articles in scholarly and popular magazines and journals academic, literary and commercial books stories, poems and creative nonfiction advertising, public relations and corporate identity pieces films, videos and Web sites. Our students and alumni work in major design, publishing and communications concerns in the Baltimore-Washington, D.C. area, New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle. We keep ourselves busy. When we’re not teaching, studying, learning or otherwise improving the future of the communications, design and marketing fields, we enjoy supporting various projects: Passager ’s mission is to explore the imagination during writers’ later years and to unearth the passion so often attributed to the young. As our writer friend Djelloul Marbrook said to us about his own work, "I’ve been writing all my life and finally I have something to say!" Passager journal publishes two issues per year of poetry, fiction and memoir from writers older than 50. For more than 20 years, Passager Books has published first books by new older writers whose work has appeared in the journal. Learn more about Passager Books’ latest offerings . Welter has been the University of Baltimore’s student-produced literary journal for more than 50 years. It is the University of Baltimore’s premier publication for creative works of fiction, poetry, memoir, essays, and visual art, gathered from writers and artists everywhere. Welter is published annually. Skelter is UBalt’s student produced literary journal, featuring students’ poetry, short fiction, creative nonfiction and artwork.
